Local Captures Rain Run Off In Nadur After Heavy Rainfall

Local
Local Facebook weather page It-Temp Madwarna shared a stunning photo of a phenomenon known as ‘ħamla’ in Nadur, Gozo.
The photo, captured by Darryl John Portelli, shows what happens when a large amount of water pours as rain and is not absorbed fast enough by the soil.
The ħamla (known in English as ‘rain run off’) has a darker side however as it can cause flooding, erosion and pollution. It can be reduced with more barriers to the water or an increase in the collection of rain water through vegetation as well as adequate drainage systems.
