Local photographer Franco Aloisio took to social media to share a stunning photo of the recent Harvest Super Full Moon rising above Valletta.

‘One can see the dome of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as well as the St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral in Valletta, Malta’, wrote Aloisio.

‘Notice the shops at Hurd’s bank on the horizon. Being a super full moon, tonight’s moon is 6.9% bigger than its normal mean size.’

The picture was taken 9.3km away from Valletta, from the limits of Rabat, using a 400mm zoom lens.

In an earlier photo, Aloisio showed a close up look at the September full moon, traditionally known as the corn moon.

‘We witnessed also a full lunar eclipse that caused the moon to appear red and gradually disappeared for more than an hour as the earth blocks out the sun.’
