Staff Sergeant Lisa Micallef has become the first Maltese person to receive the prestigious Master Technician Award from FlightSafety International in Wichita, Kansas, United States.

The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) Air Wing technician earned the award after successfully completing six specialised aviation technical training courses focused on the King Air B200 series.

The intensive programme covered mechanical and avionics systems, advanced troubleshooting, safety and operational maintenance, with the qualification recognising a high level of technical expertise and professionalism.

Staff Sergeant Micallef has served with the AFM Air Wing for nine years, during which she has achieved several significant milestones.

She became the first female technician in her section to obtain an EASA Mechanical Aircraft Maintenance Licence and the first female technician in the Air Wing to obtain an EASA Avionics Aircraft Maintenance Licence. She subsequently became the first Air Wing member to hold both EASA Mechanical and Avionics Aircraft Maintenance Licences.

Micallef has also completed an Advanced Diploma in Aviation Maintenance at the University of Malta.

The AFM said her latest achievement reflects her dedication, technical excellence and commitment to professional development. Her expertise is expected to contribute to improved aircraft reliability and the highest possible safety standards across the Air Wing’s fleet.

The Armed Forces of Malta congratulated Staff Sergeant Micallef on the achievement, describing it as an important milestone for both her career and the Air Wing.
