Minister for Home Affairs and Security Glenn Bedingfield has confirmed that the Libyan Government has sent a written request to extradite Lilu King from Malta.

In a conversation with journalists posted to his Facebook page, Minister Bedingfield said that King, whose full name is Mohamed Ali Ahmed Elmushraty, is wanted on charges of human trafficking and murder in Libya, prompting the request.

Bedingfield said that he made it clear to Libya’s Attorney General that the Maltese Government needs certain human rights guarantees before they can take the decision to extradite King.

The journalists present also asked if any of Lilu King’s associates were being investigated. Bedingfield said that they had investigated other people in connection to King’s alleged crimes here in Malta, but that Libya had only sent a request for King himself.
