Launch Of European Week 2026 In Malta With Awards Ceremony

The Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi has officially launched European Youth Week 2026 in Malta, marking the occasion with an awards ceremony celebrating youth-led initiatives that promote solidarity, fairness and active citizenship.
European Youth Week is a biennial initiative co-organised by the European Commission and the European Parliament, aimed at recognising the role young people play in shaping society and public policy. It also seeks to encourage dialogue between young people and decision makers, while showcasing projects that contribute to more inclusive communities.
For the 2026 edition, the European Union Programmes Agency (EUPA) launched a national call supporting activities taking place between 24 April and 9 May 2026, coinciding with Europe Day. As a result, 21 activities will be implemented by 21 organisations across Malta, reflecting the diversity and commitment of the youth sector in addressing social priorities through non-formal learning and civic engagement.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi said European Youth Week provides a platform for young people to express their views, engage in dialogue and contribute to society. He added that initiatives supported through the programme show how EU funding can translate into tangible action at community level, while empowering young people to promote shared European values.
The awards ceremony recognised the selected initiatives and served as the official launch of European Youth Week 2026 in Malta, with organisations presenting their projects and outlining planned activities. These initiatives will reach diverse communities and provide young people with opportunities to engage on solidarity and active citizenship.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting youth organisations through EU-funded programmes such as Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps, ensuring that youth policy is shaped by participation, inclusion and opportunity.
European Youth Week 2026 will continue through the 21 funded activities taking place nationwide, reinforcing Malta’s commitment to active citizenship and youth participation within the European framework.
