Laughing Gas Officially Banned In Malta For Recreational Use

Laughing gas has been officially banned for recreational use in Malta, with offenders now liable to criminal proceedings.

A legal notice published on Wednesday states that nitrous oxide will only be permitted for industrial, medicinal, pharmaceutical or catering purposes, Times of Malta reported.

Its use in any other context, including direct inhalation or via balloons or similar devices, is prohibited. Anyone found using it recreationally risks facing legal action.

In recent years, nitrous oxide gained popularity among Maltese and Gozitan youths for its short-lived euphoric effects. It is commonly sold in cartridges and inhaled using balloons.
