Land In Kirkop Developed Into New Ġnien Il-Koppin

Land in Kirkop that had originally been earmarked for development has now been transformed into a new public open space through works carried out by Project Green.
The newly inaugurated Ġnien il-Koppin provides residents with an accessible and sustainable recreational area within the heart of the community.
The garden was officially opened by Miriam Dalli together with Matthew Agius Zammit, in the presence of representatives from the Kirkop Local Council and the Project Green team.
Covering 1,600 square metres in an urban area, the project involved an investment of more than half a million euro.
Several interventions were carried out to transform the site into a vibrant public garden.
These include a viewing platform, pathways made from recyclable materials, aromatic herb areas, children’s play equipment and structures designed to encourage pollination and biodiversity, such as an insect hotel.
As part of the initiative, 55 mature trees and a variety of indigenous plants were introduced to strengthen the local ecosystem.
The garden also features a sustainable irrigation system powered by a 110 cubic metre reservoir, ensuring more efficient water use, while solar powered electrical systems further reinforce the project’s environmental credentials.
Minister Dalli described the project as a clear example of how land once intended for construction can instead be transformed into open spaces that improve residents’ quality of life and create greener, more resilient communities.
