A re-elected Labour Government would introduce fresh financial incentives for people aged 61 and over who choose to remain in employment instead of retiring.

Under the proposal, workers who continue working beyond the age of 61 would receive an additional €500 a year for four years, amounting to €2,000 by the time they reach retirement age at 65.

The new measure would be added to the existing €1,000 “super bonus” already offered to older workers, while those remaining in employment would also continue to have the option of transferring extra social security contributions to their spouse.

Labour said the scheme is designed to reward experience in the workplace, encourage longer careers and provide added financial support for older employees approaching retirement.
