The Labour Party’s upcoming electoral manifesto is centred around 25 major aims which it says will improve everyday life in Malta and Gozo if it is re-elected to government.

The proposals are being presented as practical goals focused on creating a “better, easier and nicer life” for families, workers, students, businesses and pensioners.

They are intended to be achieved by 2030 and form part of the wider “Envision 2050” strategy previously announced by the Labour Government. The long-term vision aims to continue modernising the country while improving quality of life across several sectors.

Among the main proposals announced so far is a pledge to increase family wellbeing by at least 25%, while raising household disposable income in Malta and Gozo to 135% of the European average by 2050.

The party also wants Malta to rank among the leading European countries for quality of life and happiness.

The manifesto places strong emphasis on the economy, with Labour promising continued economic growth and more high-quality jobs in digital services and advanced manufacturing. It is also aiming to reduce national debt to around 40% by 2030 while maintaining one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe.

Other proposals focus on inclusion, education, healthcare and the environment.

These include reducing the gender pay gap, strengthening LGBTQI+ rights, increasing pensions, improving healthy life expectancy, expanding renewable energy generation and cutting carbon emissions by more than 40% by 2030.

Further proposals are expected to be announced this evening ahead of the manifesto’s official launch.
