Labour Proposes Expansion of Free IVF From 3 To 5 Cycles

Labour has unveiled new proposals aimed at strengthening fertility services in Malta, including plans to expand the country’s IVF framework and increase access to free treatment and testing.
Under the proposals, the number of free IVF cycles offered by the state would rise from three to five, allowing more individuals and couples the opportunity to undergo treatment locally. Labour said the reform is intended to widen access and support those facing fertility challenges.
The party also pledged to introduce free fertility testing for men and women aged between 18 and 25. The initiative would provide young adults with medical guidance on lifestyle changes that could improve their chances of becoming parents in the future.
In addition, Labour plans to offer free genetic testing to couples wishing to assess their genetic compatibility before having children. The proposals form part of a broader healthcare strategy focused on prevention, accessibility and family support.
