Labour Pledges Stronger Investment In Maltese Heritage And Language

The Labour Party has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Malta’s cultural identity, historical heritage and the Maltese language through a series of restoration projects and new cultural initiatives announced during a press conference in Isla.
Minister Owen Bonnici described the Maltese language as “one of the greatest symbols of who we are”, highlighting ongoing restoration works on landmarks including the Grandmaster’s Palace, the Jesuits’ Church in Valletta and the Cottonera fortifications. He also announced plans to transform the Old Armoury in Birgu into a People’s Museum dedicated to the evolution of Maltese identity.
Among the proposals unveiled were free translation and terminology services for businesses wishing to install bilingual signage, as well as new Maltese-language accessibility tools for students with dyslexia.
Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli outlined plans for the continued restoration of Fort Delimara, Fort Bengħajsa and Fort Binġemma, which is expected to become a national space park for astronomy and research.
Labour candidate Mariah Meli also announced free entry to Heritage Malta museums and sites to encourage more Maltese and Gozitans to explore the nation’s history and culture.
