Labour Pledges Malta’s First Women’s Health Clinic And Free Endometriosis Medication

Prime Minister Robert Abela took part in a discussion organised by Labour Women in Floriana on Wednesday evening, where the Labour Party announced new women’s health proposals as part of its manifesto for the general election taking place on 30 May.
During the discussion, Abela said that a new Labour government would introduce Malta’s first national strategy focused entirely on women’s health.

Labour also pledged to open the country’s first women’s health clinic, where women would be able to receive gynaecological check-ups and contraceptive prescriptions in one dedicated place. The proposal aims to make specialised healthcare easier to access while reducing waiting times and giving women more focused support.

The party also said it would add medication for endometriosis, adenomyosis and hormone replacement therapy to the Government formulary, helping make treatment more affordable and accessible for women living with conditions that can cause chronic pain, hormonal issues and major impacts on daily life.
Labour said the proposals are intended to improve healthcare services for women and address areas that are often overlooked or under-discussed.

Similar initiatives already exist abroad. England introduced a national Women’s Health Strategy focused on improving care and access to treatment for women, while Australia also launched a nationwide strategy that included better access to menopause and endometriosis medication.

Dedicated women’s health clinics have also been introduced in several countries to provide specialised services in one place.
