Labour Pledges Expanded 24-Hour Mental Health Support Services

Labour has announced plans to further prioritise mental health care by expanding the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment service, which provides support to people experiencing mental health difficulties within their own homes.
Under the proposal, the service would become available 24 hours a day, with additional mental health professionals recruited to strengthen assistance and improve response times. Labour said the measure is intended to offer more accessible and immediate care for individuals requiring urgent psychological support, while reducing pressure on hospital-based services.
The Crisis Resolution Home Treatment programme currently assists patients in a home environment, allowing them to receive professional care without necessarily requiring hospital admission. The proposed expansion would aim to ensure continuous support throughout the day and night.
Labour described mental health as a continuing national priority, adding that investment in community-based services forms part of a broader strategy to improve wellbeing and strengthen Malta’s healthcare system.
