Labour Party Welcomes Malta In Motion Transport Plan

The Labour Party welcomes the “Malta in Motion” plan, a holistic strategy presented by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett, which, they said, will provide people with more efficient options for travelling from one place to another while strengthening connectivity between key communities, employment areas and services.
‘This is a plan that builds on and further improves what had been announced earlier.’
‘It is a plan that has taken the time needed to be properly defined and is one that can be implemented.’
The party said that, “Malta in Motion”, developed by Transport Malta together with the international firm Arup, brings together six main elements that will be integrated. These are bus services, sea transport, cars and roads, walking, cycling, and a Rapid Transit or Light Rail system.
‘This means that one mode of transport will be linked to another as part of a chain, resulting in a mass transport system that reflects the realities of today and tomorrow.’
‘The strategic vision of Malta in Motion is based on five pillars that prioritise people, spaces and economic opportunities:
• The choice of how a person travels
• Living better through an efficient transport system
• Transport that respects everyone’s needs
• An integrated and connected system where services are synchronised
• A robust plan that ensures solutions not only for today but also for the future.’
‘Over the years, this plan will help achieve a number of goals, including a more organised country, transport that meets future demands, and a system that is more inclusive, safer and, above all, efficient.’
