Labour Party Proposes Further Increase In Children’s Allowance

Prime Minister Robert Abela, on behalf of the Labour Party, has unveiled a proposal to further increase the state’s Children’s Allowance, as part of a series of measures being presented ahead of the general election scheduled for 30 May.
The new proposal would see families earning a net income of less than €40,000 receive an additional minimum increase of €250 per child. The measure is aimed at extending financial support to a broader range of households and strengthening assistance for families facing ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
This proposed increase builds on changes introduced in the 2026 Budget, which raised the Children’s Allowance by €250 per child annually for families with a household income below €30,000, bringing total payments up to €910 per child per year for many beneficiaries.
