Labour MEP Daniel Attard Attends Joint EP–Pan African Parliament meeting ahead of the AU– EU Summit

Labour MEP Daniel Attard participated in a joint meeting between the European Parliament and the Pan-African Parliament in Midrand, South Africa.
This meeting was held in preparation for the upcoming African Union–European Union Summit marking 25 years of partnership.
Speaking as a Maltese representative, Attard highlighted Malta’s firm belief that Europe’s long-term security is inseparable from stability in Africa, stressing that the futures of both continents are deeply intertwined.
“There can be no lasting security in Europe without stability in Africa,” stated Daniel Attard.
Addressing the plenary, Attard said this understanding should shape a renewed Africa-Europe partnership, especially amid growing global uncertainty.
He underlined that peace and stability cannot be achieved without prosperity, noting that inclusive development and meaningful opportunities for Africa’s rapidly growing youth population are essential.
Their potential, he argued, can only be fully realised through resilient local economies.
Attard urged the EU to strengthen its support for Africa’s industrialisation and prioritise adding value within African countries rather than extracting it.
This approach, he said, is both fair and necessary to ensure young people can build stable futures at home instead of embarking on dangerous migration routes where they risk exploitation by trafficking networks.
He concluded by praising the constructive engagement between both parliaments and reaffirmed his commitment to a partnership based on equality, trust and mutual benefit.
