Paul Daniel “Ace” Frehley, born 27 April 1951 in the Bronx, New York, the iconic guitarist behind KISS, has passed away aged 74, his family confirmed.

Frehley, known for his “Spaceman” persona and signature black-and-white face paint, died surrounded by family. They described themselves as “completely devastated and heartbroken” and celebrated his life, laughter, and kindness.

KISS, formed in 1973 with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, and Frehley, became famous for their elaborate costumes, platform shoes, and loud rock anthems, including Rock and Roll All Nite and God of Thunder. The band sold more than 100 million records by 2024 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

Frehley left KISS in 1982, rejoined for the 1996 reunion tour, and remained with the band until 2002. He released eight solo albums and continued performing until health issues forced him to cancel recent tour dates.

Local rock artist Gianni Zammit shared a tribute on social media, writing, “The Spaceman has left this planet.”
