Ongoing infrastructure works in Ħal Kirkop aim to tackle long-standing flooding issues while strengthening essential water systems, as Miriam Dalli, Minister for Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness, and Omar Farrugia visited the site this week.

The project includes major upgrades to drinking water and sewage networks by the Water Services Corporation, alongside a more efficient rainwater management system being developed by the Public Works Department.

Works are already underway, with the recent replacement of the drainage system in Triq K. Darmanin marking a key step forward.

Minister Dalli highlighted the importance of continued investment in essential infrastructure to support sustainable development and improve quality of life, stressing that such projects build long-term resilience for communities and businesses alike.

Omar Farrugia, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, noted that residents have faced years of flooding following heavy rainfall, with the current third phase of the project designed to collect significant volumes of rainwater.

He described the initiative as a clear example of the government’s commitment to safer roads and stronger infrastructure, ensuring better protection for both residents and drivers.
