Kerċem Primary School Set For €3.2 Million Upgrade

Students at Kerċem Primary School are set to begin the new scholastic year in a modern, more accessible learning environment following a €3.2 million investment.

The two-storey school, originally built in 1921, is undergoing extensive refurbishment, including the installation of air conditioning, a new lift, upgraded educational and recreational spaces, and modern infrastructure.

Education and Sport Minister Byron Camilleri and Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri visited the school to view the final stages of the works, which are being carried out by the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools (FTS).

The project has seen the school’s open and recreational areas redesigned, with improved outdoor spaces featuring non-slip surfaces and artificial turf. New spaces for extracurricular learning are also being introduced.

The upgrade includes new lighting, water and drainage services, improved internet connectivity, security cameras and alarms, fire safety systems and measures aimed at improving energy efficiency.

Despite the works, lessons continued throughout the project using temporary classrooms on the school site.

The ministers said the investment will provide students and educators with a safer, more comfortable and better-equipped environment for the years ahead.
