The 18-year-old woman who tragically died nine days after being involved in a traffic accident in Qormi has been identified as Kelly Caruana from Paola.

Kelly passed away at Mater Dei Hospital late on Saturday evening after her condition deteriorated following the accident on 21 August.

The crash occurred at around 8:15pm on Triq Tal-Bajjada, Qormi, when a 20-year-old man from Birkirkara lost control of a Renault Clio and crashed into a barrier. Kelly was travelling as a passenger in the vehicle.

Following her death, tributes have poured in for the young woman, particularly from the dancing community, where she had been involved from a young age.

Lookstar Dancers Tarxien, where Kelly had grown up as a dancer, described her as a shy and gentle soul with a kind heart and a smile that could light up any room.

In a heartfelt tribute, the dance school said Kelly had become a special part of its journey, recalling the many dances, smiles and moments shared with her over the years.

“Forever our dancer. Forever in our hearts,” the school wrote, remembering Kelly and the memories she left behind.

Tributes also came from Għaqda Kultura u Armar Marija Annunzjata Tarxien, which extended its condolences to Kelly’s family and remembered her as a dancer who had been involved with Lookstar Dancers and Carnival dance companies from a young age.

The organisation paid tribute to Kelly as an “anġlu” and prayed that she would find eternal rest.

Kelly was also remembered by Fondazzjoni Nazareth, which described her as a humble, quiet and kind-hearted young woman with an infectious smile. She was the daughter of one of the foundation’s dedicated employees who cares for its residents.

Police investigations into the circumstances of the Qormi accident are ongoing, while a Magisterial inquiry has also been appointed.
