Chairman of the Socialist International’s Mediterranean Committee and International Secretary of the Labour Party, John Grech, addressed the Presidium of the Socialist International the organisation’s highest decision-making body which convened at the headquarters of the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE) in Madrid.

This marks not only Malta’s first membership on the Presidium but also its active participation in this prestigious meeting, attended by leading figures from across the global social-democratic movement, including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who currently chairs the Socialist International.

In his address, Mr Grech expressed pride on behalf of the Labour Party for Malta’s inclusion in the Presidium and announced that Malta will host the next Socialist International Council in the coming months.

He emphasised that the emerging wave of progressive politics will overcome the tide of populism, highlighting the need to invest in young people. “While the right tends to view young people merely as votes,” Mr Grech said, “we see them as an integral part of today’s and tomorrow’s leadership.”
