Jean Paul Sofia Immortalised Through New Painting by His Cousin

Kelly Scerri de Carlo created a powerful painting honouring the death of her cousin, Jean Paul Sofia, who passed away after the collapse of a three-storey building during construction works.

The incident happened in 2022, leading to the death of Sofia, and five other workers needing to be rescued from the rubble.

Maltese courts were told that the architect responsible for the project was aware of the building standards, yet the workers were not instructed to reinforce them.

Sofia’s family continue to fight for justice for the passing of their beloved family member.

The inspiration behind Kelly’s painting is a protest vote submitted in the recent general election, where somebody just wrote “Aqta Fjura u Ibni Kamra” on their ballot, rather than numbering the candidates.

This line is taken from the famous by Immanuel Mifsud, focused on environment conservation.
