The fifth Volunteer Centre under the Maltese Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) has been officially inaugurated in Raħal Ġdid.

Named the Jake Vella Volunteer Centre, the facility is dedicated to providing space and support to voluntary organisations, particularly those in Malta’s southern region.

The centre was inaugurated by Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering Julia Farrugia, in the presence of MCVS CEO Mauro Pace Parascandalo and Jake Vella’s family.

It joins similar facilities in Valletta, Rabat, Birkirkara, and Xewkija, Gozo, extending crucial resources to smaller and medium-sized voluntary groups that rely on such infrastructure to operate effectively.

Minister Farrugia said the centre represents the government’s continued commitment to creating modern, accessible spaces for voluntary organisations, and is another fulfilled electoral pledge.

She added that naming the centre after Jake Vella honours his inspirational legacy and the vital work he did in supporting abandoned animals and other social causes.

MCVS CEO Mauro Pace Parascandalo noted that the centre will make it easier for southern-based organisations to access the resources they need.

The new centre marks a milestone in MCVS’s efforts to provide nationwide access to support services for VOs without permanent premises.

Bookings for the Jake Vella Volunteer Centre can be made through the MCVS online system at maltacvs.org, where organisations can view real-time availability and instructions on using the facilities.

Jake’s parents, Josie and Mariska Vella, expressed gratitude, saying the centre will ensure that their son’s memory continues to inspire future generations of volunteers.
