Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon clashed with Maltese senior United Nations official Vanessa Frazier during a General Assembly event on Friday, telling her to “be quiet” after she attempted to raise a point of order.

The confrontation took place at an event marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. Danon sharply criticised Pramila Patten, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, and called for her resignation over a 2025 report documenting patterns of sexual violence against Palestinians detained in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

As Danon accused Patten of following what he described as “the Secretary-General’s obsession with targeting Israel”, Vanessa Frazier, the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, tried to intervene.

“I’m sorry, but I have to make a point of order,” Frazier said.

Danon raised his voice in response, saying: “No, you be quiet, because I am speaking now.”

He accused her of being part of the same alleged obsession and said Israel would not allow UN officials to “bully” it.

Frazier responded that the matter should not become personal and repeated her request to raise a point of order.

Her recent report placed Israel’s army and security forces on a UN list for grave violations against Palestinian children.

Patten’s report also said UN entities had not been granted access to monitor conditions, while humanitarian assistance remained severely restricted.
