A historic building at Ġnien Romeo Romano in Santa Venera has been given a new lease of life as Ir Razzett tat Tfal, a modern educational centre dedicated to sustainability. Once abandoned, the building has now been restored and transformed into a learning space managed by Nature Trust Malta, where EkoSkola students and other young visitors can explore environmental themes and sustainable development.

During the inauguration, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli explained that the project aims to inspire future generations.

She noted that creating this centre was one of her first decisions and said, “Students will have the opportunity to take part in hands on activities to deepen their understanding of the natural environment, sustainable practices and waste reduction.” She also highlighted the inclusion of facilities designed for children with autism.

WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca described the opening as an important milestone in the organisation’s efforts to promote sustainability while preserving cultural heritage. Nature Trust Malta President Vincent Attard welcomed the launch, emphasising its role in supporting EkoSkola activities and benefiting the local community.

The restored centre now includes multi functional rooms, breakout areas, administrative facilities and displays of historical agricultural tools. Sensitive architectural and structural repairs have helped preserve the building’s heritage while adapting it for educational use.
