Investment To Strengthen Community Space For Żebbuġ Families & Residents
A community space in Żebbuġ has been given a new lease of life following an investment aimed at improving the facilities of the San Ġużepp Band Club and De Rohan Band Club.
Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering Julia Farrugia visited the club to inaugurate the completed project, which was supported through the Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme (VOPS), administered by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS).
With an investment of almost €15,000, the club’s main hall has undergone significant improvements, including the installation of new ceilings, an upgraded lighting system, a modern audiovisual system, fresh finishes and new seating.
The upgrades have enhanced both the appearance and functionality of the space, ensuring that it remains a welcoming and accessible environment for members of the community.
The main hall plays an important role in the daily activities of the organisation, serving as a meeting point for people of different ages and backgrounds.
Throughout the year, it hosts children’s programmes, musical activities, concerts, talks, band rehearsals and a variety of cultural events. The space also supports larger events organised in collaboration with the Żebbuġ Local Council, while contributing to the club’s fundraising efforts.
During the inauguration, Minister Julia Farrugia emphasised the importance of investing in voluntary organisations, describing such initiatives as investments in local communities.
She highlighted the role of band clubs as important cultural and social centres that preserve local identity, encourage participation and strengthen community ties.
MCVS Chief Executive Officer Mauro Pace Parascandolo welcomed the completion of the project, noting the satisfaction of seeing initiatives supported through the Council’s funding schemes become reality and benefit different communities.
Club President Frankie Borg explained that the project was designed to modernise the hall and ensure it meets the needs of today’s activities.
He thanked the Ministry for Inclusion and Volunteering for its continued support in helping voluntary organisations improve their facilities.
Project leader and club treasurer Edward Mintoff added that the works included upgrades to the electrical system, ceilings, audiovisual equipment, lighting and interior finishes.
The installation of panels has also made the hall more flexible, allowing it to better accommodate the social and sensory activities organised throughout the year.
He noted that the improvements were made possible through funding provided under the VOPS scheme administered by the MCVS.
