The Public Works Department has completed a series of infrastructure upgrades across four roads in Luqa following an investment of around €420,000 aimed at improving safety, accessibility and the locality's road network.

The project, which began in May, covered works in Triq il-Qasam Sperimentali, Triq il-Wied il-Kbir, Triq il-Biedja and Triq San Vinċenz de Paule. Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli visited the completed works alongside Director General of the Community Projects Division, Architect Nadia Gatt, and Luqa Mayor John Schembri.

The interventions included the construction of new pavements and kerbs, upgrades to drainage and stormwater systems, repairs to rubble walls and resurfacing works. The improvements also focused on road edges, drainage infrastructure and access to residential properties, with the aim of making these areas safer and more accessible for residents.

Speaking during the visit, Minister Alison Zerafa Civelli said the project reflects the Government's commitment to investing in local communities and supporting Local Councils in addressing the needs of their residents.

She noted that since the beginning of the current legislature, the Government has prioritised increased investment in local infrastructure, adding that communities are now seeing the results through projects that improve facilities used every day. The Minister also referred to the Government's decision to increase direct investment in communities from €10 million to €12.8 million over two years to strengthen collaboration with Local Councils and deliver more infrastructure projects across Malta.

Architect Nadia Gatt explained that the works were carefully planned to address several infrastructure needs within the area through a coordinated approach. She said the interventions were designed to improve safety, accessibility and the overall functionality of public spaces while responding to the specific requirements of the locality.

Luqa Mayor John Schembri thanked the Ministry and the Public Works Department for their collaboration, saying the partnership has helped deliver important improvements for the community. He also stressed the importance of maintaining close cooperation to continue addressing local infrastructure needs.

Further infrastructure works are already planned for the Ħal Farruġ area and other parts of Luqa, with the Government continuing its programme of upgrades across the locality.
