Investment Of €30 Million To Strengthen Malta’s Intangible Heritage And Festa tradition

The Ministry for Culture, Arts and Local Government has definitively concluded the acquisition of the headquarters of Banda Madonna ta’ Pompei, Marsaxlokk AD 1990. This society faced a real and serious risk of eviction from its premises due to legal issues relating to leases prior to 1995.
The Ministry invested a total of €550,000 for the purchase of the property, in addition to €50,000 representing compensation to the owners in accordance with the law.

With this acquisition, the number of musical society headquarters purchased definitively by the Ministry has now reached fourteen.
Minister for Culture, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici stated: “Today we are providing peace of mind to another historic society that has for many years been a cornerstone of the Maltese Festa in the unique village of Marsaxlokk. The Government is thus ensuring that this property continues to serve the community and cultural good.
