Investment In New MRI At St Vincent De Paul Hospital

A new MRI machine has been inaugurated at St Vincent de Paul Hospital, following an investment of around €1.8 million co-financed through European funds. The inauguration was attended by Jo Etienne Abela, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, and Malcolm Paul Agius Galea.
The investment in the 1.5T MRI represents a significant improvement in the quality of services offered, as it enables more complex examinations with a high level of precision. This is expected to lead to better diagnoses and more effective care for patients. The MRI service is set to begin operating next week, marking another step towards a more modern, efficient, and patient centred healthcare system. Investment has also been made in human resources, with four new radiographers joining the hospital to support the expanded service.
The MRI service will be available to residents as well as patients aged 60 and over, as part of a strategy to reduce pressure on Mater Dei Hospital and to shorten waiting times.

Minister Abela said the Government continues to invest in the health sector through capital investment exceeding five million euro in the Diagnostic Imaging Unit at St Vincent de Paul. This includes modern equipment such as portable imaging machines, a bone density machine, ultrasound units, a high level CT scanner, and the new MRI. He noted that around 5,000 people are expected to benefit in the first year.
Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi said the EU co-financed project demonstrates how healthcare services are being strengthened in a practical and effective way. Parliamentary Secretary Agius Galea expressed appreciation to all those involved and said the development will provide a more convenient service, particularly for elderly persons.
