Investigation Into Jurors Focused On Comments Allegedly Made Before Yorgen Fenech Trial, Police Confirm

The Malta Police Force has clarified that its investigation involving members of the jury in the Yorgen Fenech trial is solely focused on statements allegedly made by some jurors before the trial began.

The clarification comes after a number of jurors from Fenech’s trial were arrested as part of an ongoing police investigation.

In a statement, police said the investigation relates specifically to the oath taken by jurors prior to the start of the trial, and whether some of them may have made public comments before proceedings began.

Police stressed that the investigation is not focused on any other theory or allegation that may have been reported in the media.

The force also appealed for caution and prudence when reporting on the case, urging media outlets and the public to avoid speculation that could potentially prejudice the ongoing investigation.

Fenech was acquitted by a jury earlier this month of the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The verdict, delivered by an eight-to-one majority, brought an end to the high-profile trial, which centred on allegations that Fenech was involved in the journalist’s assassination.
