International Pulse Day: Keeping Your Heart Safe

International Pulse Day: Keeping Your Heart Safe
Local

Pulse Day, which takes place on the 1st of March, is an annual global awareness initiative established by the 'European Society of Cardiology' to spotlight the importance of heart rhythm health.

The campaign encourages people worldwide to take simple but powerful steps to protect their hearts, such as learning about their heart’s normal rhythm, checking their pulse regularly, and seeking medical advice if they notice irregularities.

Cardiac arrhythmias, disorders involving abnormal heart rates or rhythms, are a growing global health concern.

Experts estimate that 1 in 3 people worldwide may develop an arrhythmia during their lifetime.

A resting heart rate consistently above 100 beats per minute or below 60 beats per minute, when not related to fitness, can signal a potential problem.

Early detection is crucial to preventing serious complications, including stroke and heart failure.

By raising awareness and promoting routine pulse checks, Pulse Day empowers individuals to recognise warning signs early and take proactive steps toward better heart health.
