Infrastructure Works Begin At Ġnejna Port, Mġarr

Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights, Alicia Bugeja Said, has announced the commencement of an infrastructure project at Ġnejna Harbour, which includes the construction of a new winch room and service pillar.
Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said expressed her satisfaction at the start of this project, noting that it had been one of the most requested initiatives by the local fishing community. “We listened to the inshore fishermen who asked for this project. Through this work, we will not only address their needs but also send a clear signal that our coastal communities are a priority for us,” she said.
“Our fishermen are an essential part of our country’s maritime heritage and identity. As a Government, we remain committed to strengthening this sector through modern infrastructure, quality services, and a clear vision for a sustainable future. We are dedicated to continuing to respond to the priorities of the fishing industry, as a strong fishing sector also strengthens our coastal communities and economy in a resilient way,” Parliamentary Secretary Bugeja Said added. She thanked the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department for their ongoing work and the Imġarr Local Council for their cooperation.
Director for Fisheries and Aquaculture Services, Dennis Sciberras, explained: “Work will begin on a new winch room and service pillar here in Ġnejna. This project reflects continuous cooperation and support for Malta’s fishing sector. For generations, our coastal communities—from Anchor Bay to Imġarr and Ġnejna have relied on the sea for their livelihood and identity. A total of 519 fishermen holding MFA, MFB, and MFC licences will benefit from this new winch room and service pillar.”
