Influencer Calls For Pepper Spray To be Legal After Harassment

Taking to social media, local influencer Sarah Alfalah has called for the legalisation of pepper spray in Malta and for it to be made available only for girls to carry after being followed and harassed whilst out on walks.
‘Unfortunately, this isn’t my first time with this issue and I’ve shared it before’, she explained on her Instagram story.
‘I’ve been told not to walk alone and not to go on walks?! Like sorry? No! We can’t let fear dictate our habits just because some people are unwell and are sharing the same air. It’s just not right.’
‘Why should we suffer in the scorching heat (by walking before 7pm?) and adjust our routes daily just because some men fail to exercise self-control and treat women with respect?’
She went on to say suggest that the pepper spray would be reserved and given by the authorities, with fines being incurred if they are shared with men.
‘An authority labelled pepper spray and if the opposite sex has it or utilises it, they get fined. Any other pepper spray is illegal and a fine would be given. Any unnecessary use of the pepper spray also carries a fine for the women.’
