INDIAN NATIONAL DEPORTED FROM MALTA FOLLOWING SWIEQI VANDALISM CASE

A 27-year-old Indian national has been deported from Malta after being found guilty of vandalising vehicles in Swieqi.

The incident dates back to August 1, when the man was accused of damaging a car and a motorcycle in Swieqi. He was also charged with breaching the public peace through shouting and fighting, as well as being intoxicated.

The man was arraigned before the courts, where he admitted to the charges brought against him. Following the court proceedings, he was handed a suspended prison sentence and a recommendation was made for his removal from Malta.

The Malta Police Force subsequently carried out a return operation, deporting the man and returning him to his country of origin, India, on Saturday afternoon.

Home Affairs Minister Glenn Beddingfield said Malta wants people who respect the country’s laws, rules and society.

“Those who choose to break the law must face the consequences of their actions,” the minister said.

The latest deportation forms part of ongoing efforts by the authorities to remove foreign nationals who are found guilty of criminal offences and ordered to leave the country.
