The Active Ageing and Community Care sector has announced an increase in financial support for elderly individuals benefiting from the at-home carer scheme.

The scheme assists older persons who choose to remain living in their own homes while receiving full-time care. It aims to promote independence while ensuring they have the necessary support in a familiar environment.

More than 1,100 elderly individuals are currently benefiting from the scheme. Following measures announced in the 2026 Budget, eligible beneficiaries will now be able to receive up to €9,000 annually.

The announcement was made by Parliamentary Secretary Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, who encouraged elderly persons and their families to seek further information about the scheme. He described it as an important support system that allows individuals to continue living comfortably at home with the assistance of a carer.

He also announced that the Active Ageing Centre in Ħad-Dingli will soon be renovated to offer a more modern space.

CEO Dr Steve Agius said the organisation remains committed to helping elderly people live active lives within their communities.
