In Photos: Prime Minister Robert Abela Addresses Concordia Summit In New York

Prime Minister Robert Abela continued his engagements in New York on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, addressing the Concordia Annual Summit and taking part in a high-level meeting on children’s rights in the age of artificial intelligence.

At the Concordia Annual Summit, Abela said economic growth should not only be measured through headline figures, but also by the opportunities it creates for people.

He said that for island states such as Malta, trade is an essential driver of prosperity, allowing goods, services, investment and ideas to move across borders.

The Prime Minister noted that the global economy is undergoing major changes, with shifting trade routes, evolving supply chains, technological developments and climate pressures affecting how governments and businesses operate.

He stressed that resilience should not lead to protectionism, but should instead encourage stronger supply chains and partnerships that help countries withstand challenges.

Referring to Malta Vision 2050, Abela said the aim is to ensure economic growth delivers better opportunities, quality employment, stronger skills, sustainable communities and greater competitiveness.

During a United Nations meeting on children’s rights and artificial intelligence, convened by France, Spain and Kenya, the Prime Minister stressed that AI development must remain human-centred and built around safety, trust and respect for fundamental rights.

Abela also reiterated Malta’s support for a two-State solution during discussions on the Middle East, describing it as the path towards lasting peace.
