In Photos: PL and PN's 1st Of May Mass Activities

Valletta was awash with red on Thursday as crowds of Labour supporters filled the capital for the party’s 1 May rally, its second large-scale gathering since Prime Minister Robert Abela announced a general election for 30 May. The campaign’s opening rally had taken place in Żejtun just a day after the election date was confirmed.

This year’s event also held symbolic weight, coinciding with a century since the party first marked Workers’ Day in Malta. Dr Abela is expected to deliver a keynote speech later in the day.

At the same time, the Nationalist Party drew a sizeable crowd to Ħal Lija for its own second rally of the campaign. Opposition leader Alex Borg is also due to address supporters, as both parties intensify efforts ahead of the May vote, with Labour seeking a fourth consecutive term in office.
