The Valletta Cultural Agency hosted a spectacular celebration of Maltese music with L-Aqwa 20 tal-Maltin, a unique concert showcasing some of the most beloved songs written and performed in Maltese between 1975 and 2005.
The public had been invited to vote for their favourite tracks, with the 20 most popular songs selected for a live orchestral performance in St George’s Square, Valletta. The concert, held on 22 May at 9pm, brought together some of Malta’s most established and emerging vocalists, accompanied by a live orchestra under the direction of Maestro Paul Abela and hosted by prolific hosts Keith Demicoli and Claire Agius.
The lineup featured a wide range of local talent, including Sarah Bonnici, Daniel Cauchi, Mike Spiteri, Mary Rose Mallia, Brooke, MARA, Fabrizio Faniello, Claudia Faniello, Gillian Attard, Ludwig Galea, Mark Spiteri Lucas, Priscilla Psaila, Ivan Grech, Hermann Bonaci, Mary Spiteri, Ryan Hili, Olivia Lewis, Klinsmann, and Georgina.
Organisers described the event as an emotional and memorable experience, with large crowds gathering in Valletta to enjoy what they called a “magical” evening of Maltese music and culture. The concert forms part of the cultural programming coordinated by the Valletta Cultural Agency.
Chairman Jason Micallef praised the strong public turnout and atmosphere, noting that the initiative had successfully brought Maltese musical heritage to life in a live orchestral format. He also confirmed that L-Aqwa 20 tal-Maltin will return next year, this time featuring Maltese hits from 2005 to 2025.
