In a parliamentary reply, Minister Byron Camilleri revealed that in 2024, 18,668 non-EU nationals started working in Malta for the first time, while 10,604 foreign workers ended their jobs without taking up new employment.
For 2025, up to April, 4,598 people started working in Malta for the first time, and 3,106 foreign workers left their jobs without another role.
While no breakdown by EU and non-EU nationals has yet been released for 2025, past trends indicate that most new foreign workers in Malta come from third countries.
