Immediate Works Carried Out In Triq Il-Marfa, Mellieħa To Ensure Safety

Infrastructure Malta has carried out emergency works on Triq il-Marfa in Mellieħa following the collapse of a wall around three storeys high during bad weather, which affected access along the important route between Għadira and Mellieħa.

Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Employment Jonathan Attard, together with Infrastructure Malta Chief Executive Officer Steve Ellul, visited the site to review the progress of the works.

Attard said Infrastructure Malta intervened after the collapsed wall created a public safety risk, blocked access and caused disruption for the Mellieħa community. He said the Authority acted quickly to complete the necessary repairs and reopen the road safely to the public.

“The works were carried out at an accelerated pace and through continuous operations, including overnight work, to reduce inconvenience for residents and road users,” Attard said.

The repairs, which were initially expected to take around three weeks, were brought forward with the aim of completing the intervention within a few days. The works included repairing the affected section of the road and implementing the necessary measures to ensure safe access once the route reopened.

Ellul said the project had reached its final stage and that Triq il-Marfa would reopen to traffic in the coming hours. He added that the works took into consideration both environmental factors and the historical value of the wall.

“This intervention reflects Infrastructure Malta’s ongoing efforts to address issues affecting road safety and accessibility, while responding quickly to emergencies and unforeseen situations that impact local communities,” Ellul said.

Representatives from the Mellieħa Local Council were also present during the visit.
