IMF Hails Strong Progress in Malta’s Energy Sector

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has highlighted significant progress in Malta’s energy sector, noting the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen energy security.
In its recent report, the IMF stated, “Strong progress is being made on improving energy security,” citing several initiatives that have been implemented or are underway.
These include work on the second interconnector, expansion of renewable energy, which has already surpassed Malta’s 2030 target, introduction of incentives for vehicle electrification, upgrades to the electricity grid, and the establishment of the Climate Action Authority.
Minister for Energy Miriam Dalli welcomed the report, stating that the hard work being completed in Malta is being recognised internationally.
The IMF’s assessment comes as Malta continues to implement reforms and strengthen its infrastructure, advancing towards a greener and more resilient energy system.
