Illegal Waste Fire Reported In Rabat By Malta Rangers

This past weekend, the Malta Ranger Unit were patrolling the Rabat area when they spotted smoke from a pile of mixed waste.

The same pile had been burning the morning before, the rangers reported, but it was spotted too late. This time, the pile was a new batch set up for incineration and had just been set ablaze.

As per procedure, the rangers documented the illegality and called the 24/7 Enforcement of ERA, with officers from the Environment & Resources Authority arriving on site.

The offender was caught in the act and legal action has been taken.

‘The offender was also told to clean up the site. We can confirm that just an hour later, the cleanup was nearly complete.’

Incineration of waste is illegal as per SL. 549.63 and results in a fine of minimum €1200.
