"Il-Partit Laburista huwa d-dar naturali tagħkom l-Għawdxin" - Robert Abela

Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Robert Abela addressed a mass rally in Victoria, Gozo, where he said that the Labour movement sees Gozo as a key driver of Malta’s next phase of prosperity. He stated that ideas emerging from Gozo are helping shape national progress and highlighted that, under a Labour-led government, the island’s economy has continued to grow significantly, with Gozo’s economy exceeding €1 billion for the first time last year. He noted that the strongest areas of growth are professional, digital, and financial services.
Dr Abela said that Gozo remains a top priority for the Labour Party, pointing to the establishment of the Gozo Regional Development Authority, which developed the “Gozo: A Village of Villages” strategy. He explained that this vision has now evolved into the “Int Malta” manifesto, which focuses on a shift from economic growth alone to broader wellbeing, as the country moves into a new phase of prosperity.
He emphasised that a future Labour government would remain close to people in every stage of life, introducing measures such as financial support and paid leave for new parents, assistance with home ownership through government-backed contributions to loans, and social benefits for self-employed workers and pensioners.
Regarding Gozo specifically, Abela highlighted 100 proposals included in the manifesto, such as free public transport including Gozo Channel crossings, improved connectivity including a potential interconnector between Malta and Gozo, full modernisation of schools, major investment in Gozo General Hospital, expanded water resources for farmers, improved connectivity by 25%, and the creation of Gozo’s largest green space in Rabat. He also mentioned increased support for students, businesses, and children with disabilities.
He concluded by saying that Malta and Gozo come first, describing the Labour Party as the “natural home” for Gozitans, and urged continued unity to bring Gozo to the next level of development.
