Ian Borg Welcomes Trumps “Efforts To End War In Gaza”

Taking to social media, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs & Tourism has welcomed US President Donald Trumps’ ‘efforts to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of the hostages.’
‘We urge all parties to engage constructively toward a just peace based on the two-state solution and international law. Malta stands ready to support this path to stability.’
Trump announced the plan alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, setting out a ‘strict timetable.’
Within 72 hours, Hamas would need to free 20 Israeli hostages alive and return the bodies of more than two dozen others, in return for the release of hundreds of Palestinian detainees.
The plan has been broadly welcomed across Europe and the Middle East.
Leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates issued a joint statement praising Trump’s “sincere efforts” and urging that it lead to a two-state solution.
European Council President Antonio Costa described the initiative as encouraging, while UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called on Hamas to lay down its weapons and accept the agreement. France and Italy also voiced support, saying the opportunity for peace must not be wasted.
Key provisions include the destruction of Hamas’s military infrastructure, staged Israeli withdrawals, and the delivery of humanitarian aid once both sides commit to the deal.
Governance of Gaza would be handed to a temporary, technocratic Palestinian committee under international supervision. Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is expected to play a role, calling the initiative “bold and intelligent.”
Hamas has yet to issue a formal response, but officials have stressed that any settlement must ensure Palestinian rights and bring about a full Israeli withdrawal.
