Ian Borg Shares Iftar With Ambassadors And Diplomats From Gulf, Middle East & North Africa In Malta

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg reaffirmed Malta’s solidarity with Gulf and Middle Eastern partners while calling for restraint and diplomacy amid rising tensions in the region.
Speaking during an Iftar dinner held in Mdina with ambassadors and senior diplomats from the Gulf, the Middle East and North Africa currently stationed in Malta, Borg expressed concern over the recent escalation linked to attacks by Iran on neighbouring countries.
The gathering was also attended by Malta’s Envoy for the Gulf, Zachary Borg, and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Christopher Cutajar.
The meeting aimed to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between Malta and its partners in the region at a time when diplomacy and unity are considered crucial for regional stability.
Borg condemned what he described as indiscriminate attacks on Gulf countries that were not involved in the conflict, reiterating Malta’s solidarity with affected communities. He also thanked regional partners for their assistance to Maltese citizens during the recent tensions.
“We are deeply grateful to our partners in the Gulf for their immediate support to Maltese residents and travellers,” he said, noting that cooperation between local authorities and Maltese diplomatic missions helped hundreds of Maltese nationals during uncertain circumstances.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that Malta will continue working to strengthen cooperation between the region and the European Union while advocating for de-escalation, diplomacy and respect for international law.
