“I Want To See Police Have More Resources Available At Every Level”, Says Minister

Minister for Home Affairs and Security Glenn Bedingfield has stressed the need for continued investment in the Malta Police Force, including in training, specialisation, technology and resources, to ensure it can continue providing an efficient and professional service to the public.
The Minister was speaking during a ceremony where the Long and Efficient Service Medal and Clasps were awarded to current and former members of the Police Force in recognition of their years of dedication and service.
Bedingfield said that police officers have an important responsibility towards society, particularly in maintaining public order, protecting vulnerable individuals and enforcing the law. He said that while recognising the commitment of officers, there must also be continued efforts to strengthen the Force and provide it with the necessary support.
“I want to see the Police Force have more resources available at every level,” the Minister said, adding that the Government will continue investing in officers’ working conditions and professional development.
He also highlighted the need for the Police Force to continue adapting to changes in society and new forms of criminal activity. Bedingfield said that tackling organised crime, particularly drug trafficking, human trafficking and human smuggling, must remain a priority.
“The fight against organised crime must remain a priority if we want a society that lives with peace of mind. A sense of security is directly linked to quality of life and economic prosperity,” he said.
Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà praised the dedication of officers receiving recognition, describing their medals as a testament to years of commitment, courage and service to the community.
