Hunter Caught Shooting Turtle Dove 4 Hours After Season Closed With Illegal Gun

A hunter will be facing court charges after he was caught shooting a turtle dove four hours after the turtle dove season had been closed in Gozo.
A Malta Ranger heard what seemed to be an illegal shotgun, which used 5 consecutive shots instead of three.
The suspect was spotted shooting the dove and hiding it, despite all hunters being informed by Wild Birds Regulation Unit that the quota had been reached and the season closed.
The police were promptly alerted, and the evidence collected resulted in his identification. He will now be facing court charges.
The rangers reiterated their call for an Environmental Protection Unit in Gozo, so that such illegalities can be better managed.
