Huge Underground Reservoir Beneath Żebbuġ Local Council Offices Gets Cleaned Up

The Żebbuġ Local Council has removed more than 90,000 litres of built up silt during an extensive clean-up of an underground reservoir beneath its offices.
The reservoir measures 6.5 metres deep and 27.5 metres long, storing up to 600,000 litres of rainwater when full.
In a Facebook post, Żebbuġ Mayor Steve Zammit Lupi said the operation followed a summer spent irrigating local trees with the water inside the reservoir until they reached its bottom. He also praised the workers for their efforts clearing stones and roots in challenging working conditions.
Describing the reservoir as a valuable legacy inherited from previous generations, the mayor stressed the importance of preserving it for future use. He also expressed his intentions to restore other reservoirs in the area, with a goal of clearing at least one a year when funds allow.
