How High An Increase Are Politicians Actually Getting?

Recently, it was announced that the President of Malta, the Prime Minister, Cabinet Members, Leader of Opposition and civil service employees are set to receive a salary increase.
This is the result of a new collective agreement that came into effect on the 1st of January 2025.
But how much are they receiving?
According to a parliamentary question response by Robert Abela on the 29th of October of this year, the Prime Minister is set to receive a €960 increase per year.
The Opposition Leader is set to receive a €768 increase per year, whereas Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are set to receive €845 and €806 respectively. Members of Parliament are set to receive €384.
In the same response, the Prime Minister said that this collective agreement addresses the conditions of around 33,000 public service employees.
This comes as Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg rejects the payment, issuing a statement claiming that he was not consulted about the increase and that despite it affecting him he would not be accepting the salary increase.
Meanwhile, former PN Leader and current Finance Shadow Minister Adrian Delia had stated that ministers should earn much more than they currently do.
He even proposed appointing an expert body to design a way forward on what the salaries of the PM, Ministers and MPs should be pegged to. He said that if salaries are too low then the temptation for abuse increases.
