HOTELS RECORD STRONG GROWTH IN GUEST NUMBERS DURING 2026 SECOND QUARTER

Hotels and other collective accommodation establishments in Malta recorded strong growth in guest numbers during the second quarter of 2026, with a total of 857,857 guests and 3,613,049 nights spent.

Four-star hotels accounted for the largest share of guest nights, representing 48.2 per cent of the total. Despite the increase in visitors, the average length of stay fell slightly to 4.2 nights compared with the same period last year.

The net use of bed-places stood at 71.3 per cent, a marginal decrease of 0.3 percentage points. By June, Malta had 368 active collective accommodation establishments, offering 24,355 bedrooms and 56,329 bed-places.

Malta welcomed 815,688 guests during the quarter, an increase of 12.7 per cent over 2025. The number of nights spent also rose by 8.9 per cent to 3,498,261.

Gozo and Comino recorded 42,169 guests, up 12.6 per cent, while nights increased by 13.5 per cent to 114,788.

The average stay in Malta decreased to 4.3 nights, while Gozo and Comino remained at 2.7 nights. Occupancy stood at 72.5 per cent in Malta and 47.8 per cent in Gozo and Comino.
